GLOBO HOJE Conselho Federal de Medicina alerta para riscos de tratamentos antienvelhecimento (Federal Medical Council warns of risks of anti-aging treatments).
Lack of scientific evidence to justify the practice of anti-aging medicine, or anti-aging.
[ORIGININALLY IN PORTUGUESE, TRANSLATED WITH BING TRANSLATOR]
This is the conclusion of an extensive review of scientific studies on the subject, conducted by the Federal Council of medicine (CFM). The entity publishes this Monday (6) opinion on the matter. The material can be accessed on the website of the entity. Click here.
The CFM's Board confirmed that the opinion will serve as the basis of a resolution that will prohibit the use of hormones and anti-aging practices in the country. According to the Vice President of CFM, Carlos Vital Corrêa Lima, the code of medical ethics already prohibits the carrying out of experimental therapy. "A resolution will give more emphasis and leave even more clear this prohibition".
The anti-aging technique, the main criticism of the opinion of the CFM with regard to hormone replacement and supplementation with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, the measures proposed by those who prescribe. The hormone treatment used in these people seeking rejuvenation was the same used in patients with glandular hypofunction. Treatment without proper indication puts the patient's health at risk.
The Coordinator of the Technical Chamber of Geriatrics of CFM, Gerson Zafallon Malik, warns that the procedures can cause damage. There is increased, including the risk of cancer. "Prescribe growth hormone to" rejuvenate "an adult who do not have disabilities of this hormone is to submit it to the risk of developing diabetes and even cancer".
In accordance with the opinion of the CFM No 29/12the anti-aging medical specialty is notrecognized in Brazil , as well as there is no record of such in the European Union and the United States.
Work-The opinion No. 29/12 CFM concludes that Bioidentical Hormone modulation, "comes to be nothing more than the use of hormone manufactured in the laboratory, handled in pharmacy prescribed therapeutic purpose with masterful and not scientifically sustainable and thus not approved by accredited medical societies," says the text.
On the evaluation of the directors, the greater longevity or increase current human life expectancy is not due to a specific treatment and yes the whole an improvement in living conditions. "They are selling Antiaging illusion for the population without any scientific proof and that can do harm to health. With age, the slower metabolism and the ingestion of some substances can increase the risk of various diseases, "says Dr. Franco Costa, geriatrician Elisa who assisted in the research of CFM.
For the geriatrician and member of the Brazilian society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, Mary Lancaster, the hormonal manipulation should be indicated only in cases where the patient has some kind of dysfunction in the production of hormones, as in cases of hypothyroidism (hormonal disorder that affects the body's metabolism).
She recalled that the genetic factor accounts for a third of the causes of aging and that the best way to slow down the process is modifying habits, which include the practice of exercise, proper nutrition and weight loss. "Drugs that are not needed, in addition to the risk, mean cost with a population which already has large costs [with diseases such as heart disease].
Process-According to data from the internal affairs of CFM, over the past four years, the entity already stripped the professional record of five doctors who practiced the procedures without scientific proof. Ten other punishments (such as suspension and public censure) also were given to other doctors. The regional councils of medicine also process other cases.
The tort of these doctors was often compounded by extreme advertising, promotional and sensational. Many of them guaranteed results, which is contrary to the code of medical ethics (CEM). "Medicine is not a science, and Yes. The doctor has to make it possible for the benefit of the patient, but not always the result is satisfactory ", highlights the Corregidor of CFM, José Fernando Maia vinegar.
Highlights of the opinion:
The specialty medica "anti-aging Medicine" or "Anti-Aging Medicine" is not recognized by the Federal Council of medicine.
The biological process of aging of the human body is accompanied by a natural decrease in endogenous production of some hormones without that this fact is considered as the cause of aging.
Medicine and, by extension, the prescription hormones, must be exercised based on proven scientific evidence.

Nos últimos três anos, cinco médicos foram cassados pelo Conselho Federal de Medicina por terapias hormonais não reconhecidas aqui no Brasil.
Doctors hormonal treatments offer condemned by Council
In the past three years, five doctors were disenfranchised by the Conselho Federal de Medicina by hormone therapies not recognised here in Brazil.
August 5, Sunday, The Fantastic [like "60 Minutes" in the USA) shows Antiaging doctors, physicians who offer hormone treatments that they claim to be revolutionaries-but that, in fact, are condemned by the Federal Council of Medicine. The story is of Rodrigo Alvarez, Luciana Osorio and Eglédio Vianna.
They are convinced that you can be 10, 20, 30 years younger with a change of lifestyle fueled by hormones.
"I have available to face of 40 years, even more!" says the REALTOR Maurício Barbosa, 67 years
"My friends come to me and say: ' Wow, you're younger, what are you doing? '" says Carminha Melo Cruz, administrator of 57 years.
Mauritius applies testosterone in skin and take six softgels a day. "every day I step", reveals it.
Carminha take cortisone, progesterone, melatonin ... Sixteen capsules per day.
The two heard promises, just like the fantastic story will show.
"With the oral medication, you will rejuvenate two years, three years. With the injectable medicine, eight years, ten years," says a doctor.
"The chronological age continues to evolve, 51, 52, 53 years. The biological age that we can bring, "says another doctor.
"With these things I'll do here, in three months he is feeling 35 years. Take note. I'm not quack "promises another doctor.
All of them are doctors. And they say that it is possible to put a brake on old age.
"Fixing up the hormone levels," says one.
"It is exactly when the hormone lack that thing comes," says another.
"If I raise the hormonal level, the person doesn't get Alzheimer 's," he says.
Will these doctors have reason? Will the treatments of Mauritius and Blessing actually cause them to look younger, and without side effects?
Fantastic team shows, with uniqueness, the conclusions of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), which is the highest authority in this matter. But at least one thing every doctor must know: since 2010, a Federal Council resolution prohibits any anti-aging therapy.
"In the United States it is called anti-aging medicine, and, here in Brazil, the guys do not want to even hear talk of ageing. Are trying a lot of names. Integrative medicine, medical hormonal modulation, orthomolecular medicine ", says one of the doctors. "It is anti-aging medicine".
"It's the same thing, but is a matter of term," says another.
In the Office of Dr. Wagner Gonzaga, in Fortaleza, a 51-year-old patient and 90 pounds. He complains of hypertension and chronic fatigue. Is accompanied by a producer of the fantastic. Without any laboratory examination, the doctor soon provides the first recipe: hormone "testosterone, which protects his heart".
Testosterone is the primary male hormone and, at the same time, a steroid, which helps increase muscle mass. From 40 years on, production naturally decreases. Endocrinologists claim that this does not mean you need replacement. The doctor, who is gynecologist, prescribes and administers two amps.
"Takes time and, in a month and a half, he takes the second. And look, sorry for the joke, which is somewhat chula. If you want to, or tell him, but he is so tense! You will have an auctioneer in the House, "says Wagner Gonzaga.
The joke is chula. "I give you one, I give you two, I give you three. Get ready! "adds the doctor.
A study of nearly four thousand elderly men in Australia published last week concluded that patients with high levels of free testosterone, the responsible of the hormone in the body, have 9% higher risk of developing prostate cancer.
Doctor Wagner claims that he prescribes Bioidentical hormones that are, or have the structure just like hormones produced by our body. And, therefore, would be harmless.
"Bioidentical Testosterone. Equal to it. Does not hurt! Does not hurt! "he says.
In the Office in Curitiba, the doctor José Luiz Greenmakes a long clinical examination. And the patient leaves with a huge list of supplements, vitamins and five hormones. Among them, melatonin, forbidden in Brazil. "It is a potent anticancer, powerful antidepressant," says a doctor.
Already in another Office, in Belo Horizonte, the doctor prescribes up to a Élerson Pandey, anesthetic procaine. "When it comes to age 60, it will keep the arrangement of 45", he says.
Procaine with promise of anti-aging is banned by the Federal Council of medicine. And, two weeks later, the doctor still teaches you how to make the applications. "You'll break the seal, draw up the the 5 ml, 0.5 ml of a 2 inject side, 2, 5 ml from each other".
Worse, the sale occurs within the clinic. The code of Ethics says that doctors are prohibited from selling any medicine.
"Procaine has side effects, rejuvenating benefits do not exist. It can give seizures, can give arrhythmias and other complications, "says Silvia Pereira, Director of the Brazilian society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.
Representatives of the Brazilian society of Geriatrics examined the conduct of anti aging doctors. "You cannot prescribe any hormone without a hormone test," says Silvia.
And the patient who heard from two doctors who should use testosterone found in a blood test, that had normal hormone levels absolutely.
It would not be appropriate to indicate testosterone for that person? "No, because it has the harm of excess of the hormone," explains Silvia Pereira.
José Elias Patel, geriatric technical Chamber of CFM, condems the assertion that Bioidentical testosterone would do least harm to health: "does less evil, does as much harm as".
The businesswoman Andrea Simoni spent months at home, with no cure for depression. "I was desfalecida, couldn't work," recalls Andrea.
Until she found a doctor prescribing hormones. "Testosterone, progesterone, hydrocortisone," says Andrea.
"The hormones cause sensations. Then, you can generate a euphoria. But, on the other hand, you also have the side effects of the use of these hormones that she experienced ", explains endocrinologist Ruth Clapauch.
Yeah after euphoria, Andréia gained 14 pounds and a number of side effects.
"The swelling eas too large. Swelling in the leg, swelling in the foot. ", complains Andréia.
"When I looked at, I saw that she was really unbalanced. She was with what doctors call of Cushing's syndrome, which is an excess of corticosteroid. Was swollen. Was with an excess of fat on the nape, which we call of giba, with acne, increased abdominal fat, changing the pressure, "says Ruth.
For doctors reported in the fantastic, hormones serve up to slim down. The doctor Wagner Georgecites a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin. Also known as HCG, is a substance produced by women during pregnancy.
"It is cheap", says the doctor.
Doctor Wagner says he is also taking the HCG: "I am with 64 KG, in the month of may I was with 76 KG".
Elizabete Viana consultative Councillor of nuns, SBGG, explains that the HCG does not help you lose weight. "He can bring health problems, such as the development of certain illnesses that are hormone-dependent, as certain tumors. Cancer, "says she.
To the critics of anti aging, an answer on the tip of the tongue: "A medicine that is 25 years in the United States and remains there, can't be bad", says José Luiz Green.
Grandpa guy, American superhero body. Doctor Life is the ultimate symbol of anti-aging. A phenomenon, that the corresponding Helter Duarte was close. Doctor Life is a celebrity in the United States and many other countries. He lives in Las Vegas, meets in an Office in the same building where also runs an empire fully dedicated to anti-aging.
Jeffry Lifebegan as a patient and now is poster boy of a business that grossed $ 60 million in 2011.
The doctor tells that, after asking examinations, usually prescribe hormones, vitamins and supplements. All sold by the company Cenegenics itself at the minimum price of $ 2 thousand per month. If there are any side effects? Doctor Life says that hears this question for many years. And the answer is no.
"Even if the patient has a history of cancer in the family?" asks the reporter. "Without a doubt. Inclusive, we have patients with this profile, but of course we make sure that they are not cancer before starting the treatment, "responds Life.
In the United States, these therapies have not been recognised as medicine by two major medical associations in the country. With this, the anti-aging doctors ended up creating the Association itself. An American doctor is only punished for improper practice if it is terminated by a patient. And that is how that works in Brazil.
"The doctor Italo Rachid, who was the one who introduced it here in Brazil, has 53 years. Know what is the biological age of it? Thirty! ", says the doctor José Luiz green.
Thirty? Italo Rachid runs 2 kilometers in 38 minutes. Is a black belt in judo and now trains MMA. And says he is even younger.
"My body today works with all parameters of an individual absolutely healthy 26-year-old," says Ibrahim Rachid.
Dr. Rachid learned much of what is known from the company directed by Doctor Life. Takes 75 capsules per day.
"People are used to the world of that size. A world of cholesterol, blood glucose and blood count. This world has gone. I feel in a bubble, "says Italo Rachid.
And, in the same bubble, 1,850 doctors Brazilians took the course directed by professor Rachid. The basis of theories is a livrão.
"Then you can check out here, hormone, hormone by are almost eight thousand scientific works indexed here giving support to what we're doing," explains Italo Rachid.
Dr. Italo Rachid left Fortress taking the Tome scientific research to the Federal Council of medicine, in Brasília, in an attempt to turn the anti aging in a medical specialty in Brazil. That was in May of 2011. The Council examined documents page by page and arrived at its conclusions, that the fantastic shows with exclusivity.
Who subscribes to the opinion is Dr. Gerson Martins. The Council Chamber of Geriatrics examined eight thousand studies, ruled out the repeated and considered to be exceeded. Remaining 2,857. About aging: "Only 49 were about aging," says another Gerson Martins.
Gerson Martins explains that was not found evidence that the anti-aging treatment is beneficial. "The answer is categorical and incisive: not. There is no work that show, he presented that show, or even that we have studied after which are used as anti-aging. There is no treatment for anti-aging, "he says.
The new opinion of the Federal Council of Medicine concluded that the lack of scientific evidence and the risks and harm they bring to health do not allow the use of hormone therapies to prevent aging.
"Today this practice, with this opinion, is doomed. We are not another alternative but to make a resolution to ban the use of these hormones and of these substances. Society needs to denounce these doctors who act this way, "says the President of the Federal Council of medicine, Roberto D'avila.
The political adviser Holliestevens Pereira loads under his arm the two complaints presented against a doctor in Rio de Janeiro. He went to the police and to the Regional Council of medicine, where the proceedings take place in secrecy. "The story that will get more young, that will live forever more, this is talk for boi to sleep," he says.
The treatment began in 2005, with melatonin, to combat a insomnia. "If it had stopped there the treatment, I wouldn't have to complain about. But as he insisted on other hormonal replacements. I've been taking these hormones, all unnecessarily, "says the Weddington adventures.
The report of an expert shows that Hollie stevens hormone levels were normal prior to treatment. And that there was unnecessary prescription medicine, exposing the patient to risks.
Holliestevens says that the pains are guilt of excess GH-growth hormone. Growth hormone is produced in our brain with more intensity. And decreases over the years. What does not mean deficiency.
The American researcher Thomas Perls is one of the greatest enemies of Antiaging therapies. And, mainly, of which considers irresponsible use of GH. "Who takes GH without having to have 50% greater risk of suffering serious side effects, such as joint pain, high blood pressure and swelling of organs," says Perls.
Dr. Perls coordinates the largest world research on centenarians. And says that there is no miracle for ageing well: "we have to have a healthy lifestyle, controlling the stress, no cigarettes, with exercise, good food and friends to talk with".
On Friday (3), in the Office in Fortaleza, the doctor Wagner Georgesaid that never prescribed hormones without a blood test. And denied having spoken to the patient that the treatment with hormones and supplements prevents cancer. "Don't say it, even this is true".
After learning of the complaint, he tried to explain himself. "It would only take if I confirm, by his, which he tests should take". And defended his practice: "the hormone is who gives health. Classical medicine have not understood this yet. "
In Belo Horizonte, the doctor Élerson Pandeyadmitted that indicates procaine for anti aging, but denied that teach patients to use it and that the anesthetic is sold in the Office.
Dr. José Luiz Green said he sees no problem in prescribe five hormones only with clinical examination. And returned to talk about Alzheimer 's: "we believe that, if we raise the hormone level, we can handle a little bit. I will not cure Alzheimer 's, will not do anything ".
In the past three years, five doctors were disenfranchised by the Conselho Federal de Medicina by hormone therapies not recognized in Brazil.
For doctors of CFM, there is scientific evidence of the benefits of treatment
According to the Council, the reduction in the production of some hormones cannot be considered cause of aging (Thinkstock)
On Monday, an opinion of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) condemned the Antiaging therapies. The treatments questioned are based on prescription hormones and other substances such as antioxidants and vitamins to slow or combat the aging of patients.
The opinion states that there is no scientific evidence to justify the practice, which may do harm to the health of those who receive treatment. The document serves to alert patients and doctors about the risks of treatment and opens space for punishments to health professionals who apply anti-aging therapies.
The authors of the evaluation stated that aging is a normal phase of the cycle of life, and should not be treated as disease. In this phase, it is common for the levels of some hormones fall, without which it may be considered cause of aging.
CFM alert that various bodies, both national and international, are positioned against the hormonal manipulation in healthy individuals. "Prescribe growth hormone to ' rejuvenate ' an adult who don't have disabilities of this hormone is to submit it to the risk of developing diabetes and even cancer," says Gerson Zafallon Martins, Coordinator of the Technical Chamber of Geriatrics of CFM.
According to the opinion, the anti-aging medical specialty is not recognized in the European Union and the United States. The CFM's Board confirmed that the document will serve as the basis for a resolution that will prohibit the use of hormones and anti-aging practices in Brazil.
Over the past four years, the entity stripped the professional record of five doctors who practiced the procedures without scientific proof. Ten other punishments have also been applied to other doctors.
"There is, in the light of current science, no way to slow down aging with administration of substances", says Salo Buksman,
Director of the society.
In the coming months, the Council should adopt a resolution prohibiting the practice of anti-aging hormone. Indirectly,
it is already not recommended today by the Medical Ethics Code, which prohibits the practice of techniques
without scientific proof. In the last four years, five doctors were disenfranchised by this practice.

OTHER SIDE
Edson Luiz Peracchi, President of the Brazilian Academy of Anti-aging Medicine, defends the careful administration
and progressive of certain hormones and vitamins and rejects the idea of "rejuvenation".
"His grandmother won't let you have 90 years, but will have a metabolic condition internal compatible with 80 years,
75, 60. And the doctor knows how much she supports stimulus. "
Peracchi says that, in the coming years, the scientific evidence of the practice will make the CFM to revise his position.
And regrets that, until then, the doctors who engage in it are seen as "social outcasts".
